The blitz was a disastrous period during World War II when the Nazi Luftwaffe dropped a large amount of bombs and mines on British cities. Most commonly London is mentioned in connection with this event however Kingston-upon-Hull was the most damaged city or town with around 95 percent of houses damaged or destroyed.
This website presents a map containing a set of data surrounding the blitz which can be explored. It currently includes bombs and mines dropped on the city and RAF stations in the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. We plan to add barrage balloon defences and points of interest in the near future.
We are looking for additional data to add to the map. Here are some specifics. If you can help us fill in the gaps please contact us.
All information on the map is approximate. Precision in longitude and latitude does not mean that the original data source was precise in any way. The map can only be used for educational purposes and is not for navigation or any other use.
